This is the friendliest best board around and Bill spends time and money for us to have this. Let's get this going with some ACTION . I know that it will help him also with search engines etc.
Let's play some games and post some information.
What is the most fascinating fact you have on our beloved Riviera Maya?
The most fascinating fact I'll put in the next Sac-be newsletter - with a link to bill's board to help drive some traffic and get him some free advertising . With permission of course.
Bill I just thank you again for hanging in there with us! |

one of probably many fascinating things.........
the largest , most fantastic, underwater cave system(s) in the world
I am not a cave diver--- but the underground geology, the incredible reserves of fresh water in a land often so dry, the mystical cenote
fascinating. I hope other more knowledgeable folks will chime in on this.

That is a great answer. And one that people need to think about. Under those highways and below those HUGE developements is a very fragile world with caves and rivers all over the place.
The first time I went to Hidden Worlds I told Kevin I thought it was as awe inspiring as the grand canyon.
I hope others will add to this too. I see Toni is thinking |

I finally have made the decision.
For me the most fascinating fact there is in the Riviera Maya is her people and the friends from all over the world that I have made there.
The Local peoples are the most lovely people I have met during all of my travels around the world. The friends I have made both local and others are what I call real friends.
Thank you to each of you,
bill |

Bill and Lydia, you beat me to it. And not just on the RM either. Everywhere we've gone in the Yucatan and beyond we've encountered wonderful Mayan people, from the bartender in Paamul who invited us to his house to meet his family, to the fishermen east of Progreso who patiently put up with our stupid questions, to the guy who fixed our truck's starter in a tropical downpour near Palenque, to the policeman who gave us directions in Motul and gave us a big grin and wave as he stopped traffic so we could cross the square. We've been blessed to be touched by unforgetable people. |

Also the Yucatan people were the last holdouts in the Mexican caste war.
They could not be conquered. |

Hi, I am back on the board as well. I have been lurking but I think it is time to post again. Yes, yes and yes. The people of the Yucatan Peninsula/Riviera Maya are wonderful. And we just love the reefs, nature and ancient culture there. We have traveled to many places in the world but we are always drawn back to the Riviera Maya and Yucatan. It is the combination of wonderful people, amazing nature, caves, cenotes, reefs, paradise beaches, Mayan ruins, wildlife including gecko and lizzards, comfortable, rustic as well as luxurious accomondations and great food.
Where else can you go and stay in a restored Haciendas from the 1800's that exudes the past near Mayan ruins and than in a Cabana along Tulum's paradise beach. Spend the day snorkeling on reefs, in cenotes, see Monkey's and climb Mayan ruins and than go out and have a romantic dinner and go dancing. I could go on and on. We always seem to experience something new even after 25 trips to the area. We just got back and this time we encountered a large Marlin at Maroma Reef in 10 ft. that just showed up and swam around us for about 10 minutes probably trying to figure out what we are. Than we saw a family of cuddle fish changing colors. We also visited a dry cave and cenote we have not seen before called Caracol. We also saw several pink Flamingos flying over the lagoon while crocodiles looked at us from below a woode pier at Punta Sur on Cozumel and noticed that not much changed over there which is wonderful. Okay, I am getting carried away now. |
