Be nice to start a thread on status of Cancun Airport. Per PDC message board - Airport could be closed for incoming "tourist" flights till 11-4 earliest. Any concrete info would be great.
United -- Denver to Cancun -- just canceled all flights till 10-31 -- with 10-31 being very questionable right now. (We are booked on 10-31 but ?) |

I think Cancun Airport is a day-by-day thing. No one knows for sure when it will be ready for regular service. The best thing is to keep checking with your airline.
I would agree with United in that I also think that 10-31 is very questionable. The eye of the storm passed right over the airport, and the damage was substantial. Cozumel airport is at least as bad. |

I had a pretty discouraging coversation with American today. we were supposed to arrive today, then post-phoned until Sunday. Today I called and the person I spoke with told me that "their flights were suspended indefinitely and they had no idea when or IF the would resume service to the Cancun market". I realize that there is so much involved in the whole process so I'm trying not to get too worked up about it. I think Irene would gladly trade me places at this point! |

We are encouraging our divers to fly into Merida or Chetumal. I believe Merida is easiest to find flights. For Chetumal you have to come via Mexico City. |

American flies into Merida, but the last leg is via Mexicana. Don did that on Wednesday. He wanted to get a damage assessment on file with the insurance earlier rather than later. He also wanted to get the house secured before looting became a problem. |

Good News! After looking here on the board last night I checked the American website again and they had a new message - which I will add below. Anyway, I was able to re-schedule for Tues. the 1st now. I realize it is still tentative but perhaps the third time will be a charm! My poor dog sitter- I must be driving her nuts with all of the date changes!
Current Travel Notices
The following airports may experience irregular operations due to circumstances described below. Please check www.aa.com/gates for updated information.
Cancun, Mexico (CUN) - The airport and local travel center are closed. Access to the airport for departing customers is only available by checking in at a local school, Colegio la Salle. The school is located approximately two kilometers from the airport at Ave. Labna y Yaxchilan, in front of La Casa de la Cultura.
On October 27 and 28, additional flights from Cancun to Dallas/Fort Worth will depart at 10:40 a.m., 12:40 p.m. 2:55 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., and are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
Bring your baggage, travel documents and either your paper ticket, itinerary and receipt or the ticket number for each passenger to this location between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to check in.
From November 1 through December 14, two daily flights between Cancun and Dallas/Fort Worth will be scheduled, as well as one daily flight between Cancun and Miami. Another daily flight will be added for each of these routes from December 15 through February 2, 2006. |

from Aeromexico and Mexicana. (This from Vic of Cancunvalet as posted on the cancunmx board.)
Source: Operations Mexicana & Aeromexico.
After a meeting with ASUR earlier today here is the update.
- Equipment for instrument approach has been restored. Final testing being performed
today by Mexican Air Force planes.
- Power restoration will be completed by mid-afternoon
- Water and phone already in service.
- Blockade at airport entrance will be removed before the end of day today.
- Airport will be in shape for arrival and departure of Commercial flights starting
Saturday Oct 29th.
Again, thus the information is coming from local authorities and to me directly by phone with the director of operations of a Mexican airline there is the possibility that foreign airline companies will cancel their flights even if the airport is in operation.
An official communication of the above is scheduled by 3:00 PM today both by radio and TV. |

United #802 Denver - Cancun for 10-31-05 - Canceled our flight. They would not give us the option to confirm anything with a new booking until Mid December. We had used flight miles - they credited back all miles plus taxes paid. |

had reservations for Nov 10 - 25 in Xcalak with Continental from Vancouver via Houston. After several hours on phone call got reservations to arrive and departure from Meridia. Had to really do some sweet talking but ended up with no extra charges. |

USAIR canceled my flight for Nov 1st. When I called to resceduled they had nothing available until Dec 3.
However I spend much time making other plans this is what I found.
I am flying in on Nov 2. on Northwest airlines. I booked my flight today.
I also could have booked on Delta Nov 2 and continental on Nov 10th. Because Charleston is a limited market those are the only flights i really was able to check.
I will be down Nov 2 - 14th. Can't wait. Flights were by no means cheap I can tell ya that |
