Getting my ducks in a row for our February trip. I've already been smacked on airfare (went up $60 a seat overnight! ) so I want to get everything booked asap. Would like to tap the board's collective wisdom concerning rental cars. We have rented from Thrifty and National in the past but wonder if there are better deals out there. Anyone use Easyway before? How was the experience picking up and dropping off. Price?
We're counting the days! |

I've heard of a number of people using Easyway with good results, and a few with not-so-good results. Can't beat their prices, though. I'll probably use them next time. We've had VERY good experiences with Avicar, but they're a bit more expensive than Easyway. Since our next trip will be 10 days, thought I'd try Easyway and save a couple hundred (just guessing on the amount, actually).
Easyway will pick you up at the airport (same old guy-with-a-sign routine) and take you to their office. Reverse the procedure on return. Before Wilma the office was just off the airport grounds a little. Not sure if they've kept on using that one though. |

Hi Joe,
This is what I had posted on Kay's board last week. Hope this helps.

I'm going to copy and past a couple of replies to another post, first one is by Ann in DSM:
"I am glad everyone else has had a good experience with Easyway. Maybe the stars just weren't lined up right for us! All I know, is that I've been renting cars in Cancun since 1986, and have never had problems with the vehicles until I rented from Easyway. We had problems in June, Sept. and November with 4 different cars. Plus our friends had problems in June with their car. Yes, we got the 10% discount but was promised more than that by Jose Maria in October after the car problems in Sept., Lulu then tried to charge us full rate in Nov. ( after Wilma and knowing that we were repeat business). Fortunately for us, we are down there so often that it is really not a "vacation spoiler" just a hassle. I will say the tire that blew that evening on the Coba road was very thin and it was very dangerous being broken down there. We just don't get the warm, fuzzy, feeling that other boarders get from them. I totally agree with MyHappyPlace on the condition and maintenance issue. Irene was very impressed with Buster's cars & service, plus they have a Tulum office - http://www.busterrentacar.com/rates.html. Maybe we'll try them in June."
And this one is my reply:
"Like Ann said, I've never had a problem with Buster. Last 3 trips we rented with them and that's been over 4 years. They were great! Good clean, running cars. They've been expanding and getting new cars all the time it seems. Their rates are resonable and they were wonderful during the Hurricane Wilma. We changed cars and didn't get charged for the different drop off in Tulum and they cut the rate for us on the exchanged car!"
Love Buster Rent a Car!
-Irene
Good luck!

Hi Joe! I am glad Irene posted that post of mine. We are pretty easy to get along with and not too demanding as a general rule. After reading the Easyway lovefest that was going on another board we decided to part ways with National and give them a try. I thought if they were good and dependable that I could refer them to my friends and guests as another alternative. After using them 3 different times, they struck out! When we rented from them after Wilma, they tried to screw us on the price and when I pointed out the tire looked low - (the same one that blew) they blew it off and said it was fine. Our safety and time are worth more than the few bucks I saved with them. Also the vibes we picked up from them made us want to check our credit card statements after our return. I will try Avicar, Buster or go back to National in June when we have to rent again! |

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll give Buster a try. Think we'll rent a Ford Ka, mostly because that's how we say "car" up here |

We also had trouble with Easyway the one and only time we rented with them. The car broke down in PDC. |

Hi,
We're going to be staying in Akumal in March. One of the websites mentioned that there's a car rental place right in Akumal. Has anyone here used it?
Thanks
John |

John...TSA rents cars for Budget and the Hotel Akumal Caribe will arrange with Executive for a rental. Otherwise there are agencies in Tulum and, of course, Playa. We always get ours right in Cancun, but friends have rented through the Hotel with no problems. |

I have used Easy Way they were fine. Cars do seem a little cheap. They are not right at the airport. I have used TSA they were slow getting the car from PDC to me but the gentleman was very nice. I did some comparison shopping and we found the best deal this trip to be Thrifty. course you end up paying so much for the insurance. That is what makes easyway a good deal is they include insurance - guess with the lemons they use they have to |
