Tourist services and activities restored at EcoTulum Resorts & Spa in the Riviera Maya

TULUM, Mexico (October 28, 2005) ~ EcoTulum Resorts & Spa, a collection of three rustic boutique hotels Cabanas Copal, Azulik, Zahra, and holistic Maya Spa, began accepting walk-in guests as of Wednesday, October 26 in the wake of Hurricane Wilma. The hotel group's official re-opening for guests with reservations is set for October 31.

EcoTulum Resorts & Spa suffered minor damage during the hurricane and staff have spent the days following the storm making repairs. Four EcoTulum managers stayed on site at Hotel Zahra throughout the entire Wilma experience. Current updates are available on the EcoTulum website.

Copal suffered damage to the kitchen and restaurant, which is due to re-open November 15 at the latest. Azulik, featuring 15 private sea front villas, had several broken windows which have since been repaired. Several family suites at Zahra suffered damage, as well as one of the seaview kanab cabanas. Some roof damage occurred at all three hotels but the rest of the surrounding property is intact and relatively unharmed. Restaurant Zahra is open and operating, and purified drinking water is available.

Hotel guests shared meals with EcoTulum staff, exchanging stories and experiences of Hurricane Wilma. Many of current guests have come down from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, where they weathered out the storm.

EcoTulum Resorts & Spa is located in the small pueblo of Tulum along the Riviera Maya, a popular tourist destination in Mexico's Caribbean on the eastern coast of the Yucatan peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, just and 120 miles south of the Cancun international airport.
